Young Thug released on probation after pleading guilty to gang, gun charges
Rapper Young Thug, real name Jeffery Lamar Williams, walked free from prison Thursday, October 31, 2024, after pleading guilty to gang, drug, and gun charges. The 28-month ordeal ended with a sentence of time served plus 15 years of probation.
Young Thug pleaded guilty to one gang charge, three drug charges, and two gun charges. He also entered a no-contest plea to another gang charge and a racketeering conspiracy charge. Judge Paige Reese Whitaker imposed the sentence, citing strict probation conditions.
The rapper was indicted in 2022 alongside over two dozen others for violating Georgia’s anti-racketeering law. The trial, which began in January 2023, featured dozens of witnesses and multiple plea deals.
Three co-defendants pleaded guilty this week, while two others await their fate. Nine accepted plea deals pre-trial, and twelve will be tried separately.
The high-profile case highlights the complexities of gang-related crimes in Georgia and brings closure to Young Thug’s lengthy legal battle.
