17th Headies delayed as guests lament

It’s past 8 p.m. (WAT) on Sunday night, and the much-talked-about Headies Awards ceremony has yet to begin, contrary to official announcements made by the organizers.

This comes as a cross-section of guests and other music enthusiasts present at the Landmark Event Center venue have still not been allowed inside the hall, where the award presentations and other side attractions are set to take place.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the red carpet event, which was scheduled to precede the Headies Awards at 7 p.m., did not hold as planned.

A social media user on X, @UnlimitedEniola, lamented the delay, claiming that celebrity guests were absent as of 7:30 p.m.

He wrote: “Everyone is outside as of 7:30 p.m., and the Headies organizers have yet to commence the event. The event was slated for 6 p.m., then 7 p.m. was announced as the time to start. But as of the time of reporting, the red carpet has yet to commence, and the celebrities have yet to be sighted. #Headies #Back2Base”

The event, which normally takes three hours and includes more than 20 categories of awards, is expected to end by 11 p.m. or thereabouts, based on previous years.

For the last two years, the event was held in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States and broadcast live on HipTV, owned by the founder and chief organizer of the Headies Award, formerly known as the Hip Hop Awards.
