On Friday, December 13, 2024, former Big Brother Naija housemate Natacha Anita Akide, popularly known as Tacha, opened up about her decision to relocate abroad, specifically to the United Kingdom.
In an interview with British media personality Madame Joyce, Tacha revealed that she moved to the UK because she felt she had “conquered” the Nigerian market. She stated, “I relocated to the UK because I have conquered the whole of the Nigerian market. Relocating to the UK doesn’t mean I’m not going to do Nigerian deals. If the offer is good, why not?”
Tacha went on to explain the challenges of the influencing scene in Nigeria, admitting that while it may appear glamorous, the reality behind the scenes is not as attractive due to low pay. “The influencing scene in Nigeria looks so beautiful, but behind the scenes, it’s not as beautiful as it seems because the money is poor. Someone would pay you N6 million, that’s around $3,000, for you to influence for six months and post two videos a month.”
Reflecting on how much things have changed since she left the Big Brother Naija house in 2019, Tacha said, “The fee was the same when I left the Big Brother Naija show in 2019, but it made sense then. At least, you could book a plane ticket with it. But right now, $3,000 is nothing. N6 million seems good, but when you have to convert it to dollars, travel abroad, and spend money to look good, there’s nothing left.”
Tacha’s move to the UK highlights the challenges faced by influencers in Nigeria and sheds light on the financial realities of the industry.
