Uzor Arukwe reacts to gay rumor with humor and support for LGBTQ+ community
Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has responded with a blend of candour, humour, and acceptance to a rumour about his sexuality, clarifying that while he is not gay, he has nothing but love and respect for the LGBTQ+ community.
In a recent interview, Arukwe recounted his reaction to the rumour, saying it took him by surprise. “They said that I was gay, and that shocked me to my balls. I was excited too. Cos I heard that when they start saying those kinds of things, you will blow (famous), so I thought to myself, ‘this must be it.’”
His lighthearted response demonstrated not only a sense of humour but also a broader message of authenticity. “If it were my sexuality, I would own it. I’ll be one of the hottest around. I would own it with my chest,” he said, emphasizing his comfort with his identity.
Arukwe also took the opportunity to express solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. “So, I have a lot of gay friends, they are my people, and I know their sexuality. And I love them to death. I have nothing against them whatsoever, but I’m not going to agree to what I’m not just because to some people they are a certain type of people. For me, let God judge,” he explained.
He concluded his remarks by teasing the most surprising part of the rumour: “The most shocking part was the person who they said was my boyfriend,” though he chose not to reveal any further details.
Arukwe’s forthrightness and empathy in addressing the speculation underscore his self-assuredness and support for inclusivity in the entertainment industry.
