Governor Otti urges NYSC corps members to be change-makers in Abia communities

On Friday, April 25, Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, encouraged members of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to give their best during their service year and make meaningful contributions to the development of their host communities.
The governor’s message was delivered during the official swearing-in ceremony at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area. Representing the governor at the event was the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Nwaobilor Ananaba.
Dr. Otti praised the NYSC scheme for its vital role in building national unity and development. He assured the new corps members that his administration remains fully committed to supporting and strengthening the scheme in the state.
The governor also offered his prayers for the success of the new NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu.
In her welcome address, the NYSC Abia State Coordinator, Mrs. Gladys Adama, explained that the orientation course is designed to build discipline, leadership skills, and a strong sense of civic responsibility in corps members. She said they would be deployed across the state’s 17 local government areas—especially rural areas—where their contributions are most needed.
Mrs. Adama added that this effort supports the “New Abia” development agenda of the State Government. She thanked Governor Otti for his continued support, including ongoing upgrades at the orientation camp. However, she also appealed for better office space for the NYSC state secretariat and for the payment of monthly stipends to corps members posted to Abia.
The corps members were officially sworn in by Justice Chido Wakama.
