Portable criticizes Olamide’s role in his fame, sparks social media backlash
Nigerian artist Portable has caused a stir on social media after claiming that rapper Olamide did not make him famous, despite their collaboration on the 2021 hit “Zazu Zeh.” During a live TikTok session, Portable explained that while Olamide helped him, he was already well-known before the rapper’s involvement.
“Is it Olamide that posted me and got me famous? He’s my helper, yes, but I was already famous before he helped me,” Portable said. He emphasized that his fame had already taken off, pointing to the attention he received from industry figures and fans even before collaborating with Olamide.
Portable also highlighted other influencers like Tunde Ednut and Skepta for supporting his career, claiming that they contributed more to his success. He further criticized the industry for blacklisting him, insisting that he helped himself to achieve his current status.
His remarks have sparked a mix of responses on social media. While some fans have defended Portable, arguing that he deserves recognition for his talent and effort, others have called him ungrateful, pointing to an older video where he was seen begging Olamide for the feature. “Why didn’t you reject Badoo’s verse if you already blew?” one critic questioned.
Portable’s comments have reignited discussions about the complexities of artist collaborations and the fine line between gratitude and self-promotion in Nigeria’s competitive music industry.
