Phyno slams comparisons with Olamide, celebrates success of “Full Time Job” album
Nigerian rapper Phyno has expressed frustration over constant comparisons with fellow indigenous rapper Olamide, urging fans to stop pitting them against each other.
In a recent X post, Phyno reacted to a user’s query asking who the “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) of Nigerian rap is between him and Olamide. Phyno wrote, “Yo!!! Tf is wrong with u guys for God sake .. stop putting me up against my brother or anybody else for that matter . Do your banter with someone else .. na ala adi agba unu.. wtf.”
Meanwhile, Phyno’s fifth studio album, “Full Time Job”, continues to reap success. The album has topped Apple Music Nigeria’s Top Albums Chart and spawned three singles: “Time of My Life”, “Do I”, and its remix featuring Burna Boy. Phyno has also released three music videos from the album, including the latest visuals for “Grateful”.
Industry analysts see Phyno’s reaction as a reflection of the unnecessary rivalry fueled by fans and social media. “Artists should be celebrated for their unique contributions, not constantly compared,” said a music critic.
Phyno’s “Full Time Job” album features collaborations with Johnny Drille, Fave, Burna Boy, Flavour, and Cheque, cementing his status as a leading figure in Nigerian rap.
The debate highlights the complexities of fandom and the importance of appreciating artistic diversity in the Nigerian music industry
