Headies chasing clout with Mohbad’s posthumous nomination – Carter Efe

Carter Efe, the popular Nigerian skit maker and musician, has expressed his frustration over the Headies Awards organizers for nominating the late Mohbad for posthumous honors.

In a video shared on social media on Monday, April 29, Carter Efe criticized the awards body for nominating Mohbad in two major categories at the 17th edition of the Headies: Best Street-Hop Artiste of the Year and the Viewers’ Choice Award for his collaboration with Chike.

“Why Headies dey misbehave now, them go dey nominate Mohbad? Wetin makes them nominate Mohbad? But when the boy was alive them no go give am o. Anything for the clout na him Headies go dey do,” Carter Efe said in Pidgin.

The posthumous honor was received on Sunday, April 28, by Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi, and their son in a moving ceremony in Lagos.

Carter Efe’s comments have sparked debate online, as many fans and critics continue to question the timing of Mohbad’s recognition, given that he was never awarded while alive. The late singer, who tragically passed away in September 2023 under controversial circumstances, remains a beloved figure in Nigerian music.
