Governor Otu vows APC will take over all South-South states in Nigeria

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, a key leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s South-South geopolitical zone, has confidently declared that the ruling party will soon capture the remaining three states in the region currently governed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking upon his return to Calabar on Tuesday, April 29, Governor Otu celebrated recent political gains, highlighting that Cross River, once the only APC-controlled state in the South-South, now shares power with Delta and Edo States—marking what he described as “a dream realized.”
His remarks came a day after Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and Governor Otu officially welcomed Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori into the APC fold.
Currently, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Rivers States remain under PDP control—though Rivers is now under a temporary sole administrator for six months following the suspension of Governor Sim Fubara.
Governor Otu emphasized that bringing the entire South-South into APC’s control would enable stronger regional cooperation, faster development, and lasting political unity.
“An increasing number of South-South states under APC governance is a dream realized,” Otu stated. “Together in APC, the six states shall chart a new course of greatness for the region and our nation.”
As Vice Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, Otu called on Oborevwori and other defectors to bring their experience and local support to strengthen APC’s vision for a flourishing South-South and a renewed Nigeria.
