Drama ends in Ilorin as singer Portable granted bail after petition withdrawn

Popular street-hop artist Badmus Abeeb Okikiola, known widely as Portable, was granted bail and released from the Oke-Kura correctional centre in Ilorin on Tuesday, April 15, following the withdrawal of a petition filed against him by fellow artist Saheed Osupa.

Prison officials confirmed that Portable walked out of custody at 3:30 p.m., after his bail conditions were reviewed by authorities.

Notably, the flamboyant singer—often recognized for his eccentric style—had his signature multi-coloured hair shaved clean before his release. He was accompanied by two of his wives, who were present at the facility during his release.

A source within the custodial centre disclosed that Portable had his first proper meal on Tuesday morning, having reportedly gone without food since he was remanded on Monday, April 14.

His arrest took place on Saturday, April 12, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and he was subsequently transferred to Ilorin by operatives of the Kwara State Police Command.

The case stemmed from allegations of criminal intimidation, defamation, and threats to life, leveled against him by Saheed Osupa, a respected figure in the Fuji music scene. However, the matter was dropped after Osupa—who was physically present in Ilorin—withdrew the petition, paving the way for Portable’s release.

An official at the centre remarked that the resolution came swiftly once the petitioner pulled back, and Portable’s bail conditions were varied to facilitate his exit from custody.

The development has been widely discussed in entertainment circles, as many await to see if the singer, known for his controversial persona, will temper his actions going forward or find himself entangled in fresh disputes.
