AFCON 2025 qualifier: Ilechukwu praises Eguavoen as major asset for Nigeria
Following Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Benin Republic in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Saturday, September 7, interim assistant coach Fidelis Ilechukwu hailed Austin Eguavoen as one of the best things to happen to Nigeria at the moment.
Eguavoen, who was appointed interim coach after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) did not finalize the appointment of Bruno Labbadia as the new Super Eagles coach, has been lauded for his leadership.
In an interview with 54footballx, Ilechukwu praised Eguavoen for his role in the team’s success and his inclusive coaching style. “We will make sure we support Austin Eguavoen because he is very open. He is a coach who carries everybody along,” Ilechukwu stated.
He continued, “We appreciate his tactics and technical approach. To me, Eguavoen is one of the best things to happen to Nigeria in such a short period of time, and we are committed to achieving success with our support.”
