UEFA to honour Cristiano Ronaldo as Champions League all-time top scorer

Cristiano Ronaldo, the UEFA Champions League’s all-time leading goalscorer, is set to receive a special award from UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin. This recognition will celebrate his extraordinary career in Europe’s premier club competition.

The honour will be presented during the inaugural 2024/25 UEFA Champions League 36-team league phase draw ceremony, scheduled for Thursday, August 29, at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

Over his illustrious career, Ronaldo has scored 140 Champions League goals in 183 appearances. He leads the scoring charts by 11 goals over Lionel Messi and 46 ahead of third-placed Robert Lewandowski.

Ronaldo has been the Champions League’s top scorer in seven different seasons, more than any other player. His remarkable scoring streak includes netting eight goals during Manchester United’s 2007/08 triumph and an impressive 15 goals in Real Madrid’s 2017/18 winning campaign. He also holds the record for the most goals in a single Champions League season with 17, achieved in the 2013/14 season.

Throughout his career, Ronaldo has won the Champions League five times—once with Manchester United and four times with Real Madrid—making him the first player to secure the title five times since the competition’s rebranding in 1992. He is also the only player to have scored in three different Champions League finals (2008, 2014, 2017).

Additionally, Ronaldo has the record for the longest Champions League scoring streak, with goals in 11 consecutive matches from June 2017 to April 2018. He has also achieved eight Champions League hat-tricks.

Ronaldo’s accolades extend beyond the Champions League, as he is the all-time leading scorer in all UEFA club competitions with 145 goals in 197 appearances and holds the record for the most goals in men’s international football, with 130 goals in 212 appearances.
