Multiple-vehicle crash on Lagos-Ibadan expressway causes major gridlock

Thousands of commuters and motorists were stranded on Friday following a multiple-vehicle accident on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, inward OPIC.
The crash, which occurred in the early hours of the day, involved several trucks and cars, causing a severe traffic jam on the busy route that links Lagos to other parts of Nigeria.
Although authorities have yet to confirm fatalities, reports indicate that several individuals sustained injuries. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), confirming the incident on X (formerly Twitter), said emergency responders had been deployed to rescue victims and clear the wreckage.
“We recorded an accident on the Kara bridge inward OPIC on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway with multiple vehicles. LASTMA personnel and other emergency responders have swung into action,” the agency posted. “The incident has dragged traffic backwards to Otedola bridge. Patience is required from the road users.”
As of the time of reporting, operatives of LASTMA, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and other emergency services were present at the scene, working to manage the situation and restore order.
The gridlock extended to as far as the Mowe axis and the 7-Up area in Lagos, forcing some commuters to trek long distances while others waited for the situation to improve.
