Portable teases new single ‘Oni Reason’ days after release from detention

Street hop artist Portable has returned to music just days after his release from detention, teasing a new single titled ‘Oni Reason’ on social media. The track appears to chronicle his recent legal troubles in Kwara State, following a criminal defamation petition filed against him by Fuji legend, King Saheed Osupa.

In a snippet shared via Instagram, the controversial singer reflected on his ordeal, claiming that the journey of his life is divinely guided. “Oni Reason” continues Portable’s trend of transforming public controversies and legal issues into music that resonates with his core fanbase.

This latest development adds to Portable’s pattern of responding to personal struggles through art. After his 2023 arrest by Ogun State Police over allegations of assaulting officials, he released the ‘Most Wanted’ EP. In 2024, he followed the viral “I Am A Chosen” trend with the ‘Chosen EP’.

Another notable incident saw Portable release the track ‘Spiderman’ after he was filmed scaling a fence to evade arrest related to unpaid debt on his luxury G-Wagon Brabus.

Despite frequent run-ins with law enforcement, Portable has maintained relevance through strategic releases. His collaboration with British-Nigerian rapper Skepta on ‘Tony Montana’ stands as his biggest hit since ‘Zazzu Zeh’. The momentum continued with ‘Tony Montana of London’ EP and the ‘Canadian Burger’ EP, released during his international tours in 2025.

With ‘Oni Reason’, Portable appears once again set to turn controversy into cultural currency, reaffirming his unique approach to storytelling in the street-hop genre.
