This protest should have leaders, so it doesn’t fail like #EndSARS – VeryDarkMan

Popular social media activist and influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, known to most as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has called for a nationwide protest but has added a caveat, saying the protest should have leaders this time so that it does not fail like the famous #EndSARS protest did the last time.

VDM made these statements in an Instagram video on Saturday, July 13.

In the video, VDM complained about how the country is deteriorating, mainly due to bad leadership and corruption in government. He mentions that many Nigerians will not be able to stomach the situation any longer and cited some videos where other people are already planning a protest.

One of the videos he cited was of a Nigerian saying the citizens should start a war and vandalize some facilities in the Presidential Villa in Abuja, if not the Villa itself. Another video is of a man and woman teaching viewers the way to overcome teargas if they’re exposed to it.

This led to his comments, calling for Nigerians to plan whatever oncoming protest very well, saying it must have leaders this time, so that it would not be like the last one that failed, referring to the EndSARS protest that effectively ended on October 20, 2020, after the Nigerian Army was unleashed on unarmed protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate, leaving more than 100 people dead and several others missing.

VDM further explained that it would be better if each state had leaders for the protest, saying that these leaders would be the ones to speak when the protests get the attention of the Federal Government.

VDM’s comments led to varying reactions from viewers, some particularly angry that he said that the #EndSARS protest failed.
