Team Nigeria adds seven gold medals, climbs to fourth place in the African Games
Team Nigeria now ranks fourth for total medals at the ongoing African Games in Ghana, having amassed seven gold, seven silver, and 12 bronze medals, Premium Times reports.
The country took a big leap in the standings after adding the seven gold medals on Sunday, March 10.
After many disappointing outings, Anuoluwapo Opeyori came through for Team Nigeria with the first gold medal in the Badminton men’s single event.
Impeccable performances also came from all the representatives in the women’s wrestling event, where all six of them delivered gold medals.
It was first Mercy Genesis with the gold medal in the wrestling event, then Christiana Ogunsanya, Kolawole Omolayo, Adekuoroye Odunayo, Blessing Oburududu, and Rueben Hannah Amuchechi followed, to complete an excellent Sunday showing.
After the Sunday games, Egypt remained far and away the gold medal leaders, with 36 gold medals and 66 medals in total.
