Shehu Sani explains reason behind heavy security presence at Kano palace
Shehu Sani, the former senator for Kaduna Central, has revealed the possible cause of the heightened tension at the Kano Emir’s palace. On Friday morning, police officers in full tactical gear surrounded the Emir of Kano’s palace, starting as early as 6 a.m., sparking concerns over security and potential unrest.
Sani suggested that the increased security could be related to Emir Muhammadu Sanusi’s plans to appoint a district head for Bichi town, a move that may have caused tensions. In a post on X, Sani urged caution, saying, “In the interest of peace, there should be serious restraint in the application of force, might, and power over the Kano emirship tussle.”
This latest incident is just one chapter in the ongoing controversies surrounding the Kano emirship. Back in May, Governor Abba Yusuf dethroned former Emir Aminu Ado Bayero while he was away, and reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir. Sanusi was quickly moved to the Kofar Kudu palace, while Bayero returned to the state and settled at the Nassarawa mini palace. This shift in power led to a series of court cases, both supporting and challenging the state government’s actions.
