Mercy Chinwo: VeryDarkMan responds after court orders his arrest for defamation

On Friday, March 14, controversial social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), responded after a Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, issued a bench warrant for his arrest on charges of “criminal defamation” against gospel artist Mercy Chinwo.

On Thursday, March 13, 2025, Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna issued the arrest warrant after VeryDarkMan failed to appear in court following a summons issued on March 5, 2025. The court had summoned him to answer to the allegations brought against him by Chinwo for allegedly defaming her reputation.

Responding to the arrest order on his Instagram story, VeryDarkMan, who is currently abroad, dared Nigerian security agencies to arrest him when he returns to Nigeria.

In a bold statement, he wrote in Pidgin: “I dey come Naija very soon make una ready to arrest me for airport. Arrest no be new thing for the Ratel na.”

This marks the latest development in the ongoing legal battle between the social media critic and the gospel artist.
