Security operatives block journalists from covering Zamfara governor’s 2025 budget presentation

On Thursday, December 5, security operatives at the Zamfara State Government House prevented journalists from covering the 2025 budget presentation at the State House of Assembly.

Journalists had arrived at the House of Assembly Complex ahead of the 10:00 am event, but were blocked from entering the chamber by security personnel. All entrances were shut, and the journalists were denied access.

Despite efforts from the governor’s spokesman, Sulaiman Bala Idris, to intervene, the security operatives remained firm in their decision, refusing entry to the press. A Department of State Services (DSS) officer, leading the security team, ordered that the journalists not be allowed inside, warning his subordinates not to open the gates for them.

An insider at the Assembly Complex suggested that the decision was intentional, explaining that the lawmakers had not formed the required quorum to receive Governor Dauda Lawal for the budget presentation. Out of the 24 members of the assembly, only eight were present.
