Davido says he doesn’t get enough credit for his groundbreaking impact on Nigerian music

On Wednesday, April 30, Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, better known as Davido, opened up about what he believes is a lack of recognition for his influence on the Nigerian music industry.
In a candid interview with content creator Egungun of Lagos, Davido shared his thoughts on how, despite his 15 years of consistent success, he feels he isn’t receiving the proper acknowledgment for his work.
“I have been conquering the music industry for 15 years, but the crazy thing is that people don’t give me my flowers [credits] that I deserve,” he said.
When asked if he believed he had haters, Davido responded, “There are haters, but when I go everywhere, they love me, so I’m like, where are the haters?”
Despite his feelings of underappreciation, Davido is undeniably one of the most awarded artists in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. Just recently, he took home the prestigious Artist of the Year award at the 17th edition of The Headies Awards in Lagos. He was also named Digital Artiste of the Year at the same event, further solidifying his position in the industry.
Although Davido may feel overlooked at times, his track record of accomplishments speaks volumes about his undeniable contribution to the growth and global recognition of Afrobeats.
