FG declares May 1 public holiday for Workers’ Day, urges hope and productivity

On Wednesday, April 30, the Federal Government of Nigeria announced that Thursday, May 1 will be a public holiday to mark Workers’ Day, a celebration held annually to honor the contributions of workers across the country.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration in an official statement, praising Nigerian workers for their dedication, sacrifice, and impact on both the nation’s internal development and its global reputation.
“There is dignity in labor; the dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building,” Tunji-Ojo said.
He emphasized the importance of peace, innovation, and productivity in driving industrial growth and economic progress. He also encouraged workers to raise the quality of their skills and services to help improve governance and ensure citizens benefit from the country’s resources.
Reaffirming the government’s priorities, the minister added:
“This administration is fully committed to the security of life and property of every citizen and foreigner in the country.”
He concluded by urging Nigerians to “keep hope alive,” expressing confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
