Manchester City downs Tottenham, regains lead at the top with one game to go
Manchester City will control its fate in the Premier League title race once again this season, as Pep Guardiola’s men would only need to match Arsenal’s result on the final day to secure their fourth consecutive league title.
This would be the first time a Premier League manager or team will win four titles in a row.
Man City had a bad first half against Ange Postcoglou’s men, going in for the break at 0-0, but deadly marksman Erling Haaland opened the scoring six minutes into second half, putting the Cityzens 1-0 up.
The most iconic moment occurred in the 86th minute when Heung Min Son pulled away from Ruben Dias and was through on goal. His shot was heroically saved by Stefan Ortega Moreno, who himself had been substituted on when starting goalkeeper Ederson had stayed down for several minutes following a challenge from Spurs centreback Cristian Romero.
Shortly after Ortega Moreno’s massive save, Man City went down the other end and won a penalty, converting it easily through Haaland again.
This win sends Man City back to the top of the league, pushing Arsenal into second place and meaning that the Manchester club will win the league again with a win over West Ham on Championship Sunday.
