Liverpool face setback in race for title, hands point to Manchester United

Liverpool was forced to settle for a point as it faced Manchester United on Sunday, April 7, at Old Trafford.

The Reds were favorites coming into this game, considering that it was leading the league and facing a team that had been rubbish defensively.

Liverpool took the lead in the 23rd minute through the in-form Luis Diaz, but the game momentum shifted in the 50th minute when youngster centerback Jarell Quansah made a poor pass into the path of Man United captain Bruno Fernandes, who struck the ball home from 48 yards, the longest distance of any shot taken in that game.

Man United further compounded the title chasers’ problems when youngster Kobbie Mainoo struck home again from inside the box in the 67th minute, putting the home side 2-1 up.

Needing two goals now to win, Liverpool was able to score one through a penalty in the 84th minute after Aaron Wan Bissaka brought down substitute Harvey Elliott. The penalty was scored by Mohamed Salah.

Unfortunately, Liverpool was unable to find the other goal they needed that would have seen them return to the top of the table.

This draw means that they remain in second place, with Arsenal top of the table and Man City in third place.
