Jibrin explains why Senate passed Tinubu’s Tax reform bills for second reading
On Friday, November 30, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, shared the reasons why the Senate allowed President Bola Tinubu’s controversial tax reform bills to pass for a second reading.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, Senator Jibrin explained that the decision was made to give experts and all Nigerians a chance to provide their opinions and suggestions on the bills.
“The Senate passed the tax reform bills to allow experts and the public to contribute to the discussion,” Jibrin said.
This move followed President Tinubu’s submission of four tax reform bills to the National Assembly last month, which sparked controversy. Northern governors and other groups had expressed opposition to the reforms.
On Thursday, November 29, the Senate passed the bills for a second reading after a voice vote, and Senator Jibrin emphasized that it was done to ensure that everyone could have a say.
