House leaders promise to focus on important tax reforms for a better future

On Monday, January 13, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, shared that the main priority for the House in 2025 is to make sure the Appropriation Bill and the Tax Reform Bills are passed. These bills are seen as crucial for the country’s economic growth and stability.

Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu, who spoke on behalf of Abbas during the first session after the Christmas and New Year break, emphasized that both bills are essential to help the country recover financially and stay stable.

He said, “The legislative agenda of the House for 2025 prioritises the passage of the Appropriation Bill and the Tax Reform Bills, both of which are pivotal to economic recovery and fiscal stability.”

“These reforms are important for increasing the number of people paying taxes, ensuring they follow the rules, and reducing the need for borrowing from other countries,” he added.

Abbas also highlighted that the House will work hard to ensure the reforms are fair and take into account the needs of all Nigerians, especially those who need help the most.

He reminded lawmakers that while working on the budget and other important issues, they must be careful to check that every proposal aligns with the country’s goals and will bring real benefits to the people.

Abbas also believes that a planned Citizens’ Town Hall on the budget will be a great way to make sure everyone’s voice is heard and that decisions are made transparently and fairly.
