Four arrested for blackmailing ex-NPA MD and pretending to be EFCC chief

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested four individuals accused of impersonating its Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, and blackmailing him in a one million dollar scam.

EFCC Spokesman Dele Oyewale announced the arrests in Abuja on Thursday, August 29. The suspects were taken into custody on Wednesday, August 28, at locations in Gimbiya Street, Garki, and Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja.

According to Oyewale, the suspects pretended to be the EFCC Chairman and approached the former Managing Director of the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA), Mr. Mohammed Bello-Koko, with a fraudulent deal. They falsely claimed that Bello-Koko was involved in fake EFCC investigations during his time at NPA.

“The impersonators allegedly demanded one million dollars from Bello-Koko, threatening him with arrest and prosecution if he didn’t pay up,” Oyewale said.

Upon receiving information about the scam, EFCC operatives coordinated with the suspects, leading to their arrest.

“The suspects are currently in EFCC custody and will face charges in court once our investigations are complete,” Oyewale added.
