2024/25 Champions League final returns to Munich for first time in 12 years

The grand finale of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League will take place at Munich’s famous Fußball Arena München on Saturday, May 31, 2025.

As Europe’s top football clubs gear up for another thrilling season, excitement is building for the final at this historic venue, which is returning to Munich for the first time since 2012. This match will be the highlight of the 70th season of Europe’s premier club tournament.

The last time the Champions League final was held at Munich’s stadium, in 2012, Chelsea FC triumphed over Bayern Munich in a dramatic penalty shootout.

The draw for this eagerly anticipated league phase will occur in Monaco on Thursday, August 29.

A separate release from the club’s website also highlights the significance of this venue. The Fußball Arena München, completed on April 30, 2005, was built in less than three years following a referendum in October 2001 where Munich citizens voted to construct a new arena. It hosted the opening match of the 2006 FIFA World Cup and several other key games, including the 2012 Champions League final.

The UEFA Champions League trophy stands 73.5 cm tall and weighs 7.5 kg. Although it may not be considered an artistic masterpiece, it remains highly coveted in the world of football, according to its creator Jürg Stadelmann.

The winners of the 2024/25 Champions League will also earn the right to face the UEFA Europa League champions in the 2025 UEFA Super Cup and secure a spot in the league stage of the 2025/26 Champions League if they haven’t already qualified through their domestic competition.
