Zamfara governor signs ₦546bn 2025 budget, pledges continued reforms
Governor Dauda Lawal has signed the ₦546 billion 2025 appropriation bill, titled “Rescue Budget 2.0,” into law. The signing ceremony took place on Thursday at the Council Chamber of the Government House, Gusau, with the budget presented by the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly.
Governor Lawal emphasized his administration’s commitment to completing legacy projects and building on reforms initiated during his 18 months in office. “We must not only look at where we are or where we are going, but where we’ve been,” he said, reflecting on the state’s recovery from years of governance challenges.
The governor highlighted the dire state of Zamfara before his tenure, citing a decade of poor governance that led to economic collapse, unpaid wages, dilapidated infrastructure, and inadequate public services. “If we had not acted swiftly, Zamfara State would not be a place we could live in today,” Lawal said.
Key reforms from his administration include raising the minimum wage for civil servants from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000 and addressing issues like electricity shortages, water supply, and rising health concerns such as cholera.
Budget Breakdown and Priorities
The ₦546 billion budget allocates 28% to recurrent expenditure and 72% to capital projects, reflecting the administration’s focus on development. The budget prioritizes security, education, health, infrastructure, and agriculture.
Governor Lawal highlighted major projects earmarked for funding, including the completion of Gusau International Airport and the Gusau-Magami to Dansadau Road. He stressed the importance of addressing Zamfara’s infrastructure decay and fostering sustainable development.
“Our Rescue Budget 2.0 is driven by strong policies and a commitment to the people of Zamfara,” the governor stated, promising continued focus on quality architectural development and impactful governance.
This budget reflects the administration’s resolve to consolidate gains and secure a brighter future for Zamfara State.
