Soccernet: Chukwueze could leave Milan in January
Samuel Chukwueze could leave AC Milan as early as the January transfer window with interest mounting from several European clubs, a report claims.
Chukwueze had a great preseason under new head coach Paulo Fonseca. Still, he has once again fallen victim to the same situation he did last season: Christian Pulisic is in red-hot form, making him undroppable.
Soccernet. ng is reporting that Chukwueze ‘could be on his way out of Milan’ with Atletico Madrid keen on bringing him back to La Liga. Premier League sides West Ham United and Aston Villa are also keen on him and know he is not getting the playing time he would like.
The 25-year-old winger joined Milan from Villarreal last year for a fee of around €20m, signing a contract running until June 2028, but he ‘could be eyeing a fresh start sooner rather than later’ because he has played just 148 minutes this season.
Speaking about Chukwueze’s struggles, Fonseca offered some insight during a press conference given the Lecce game.
“He had a very good pre-season when he had space against big teams. When we arrived here, against Torino and Lazio, I think Chukwueze was not as good as in the pre-season,” he said.
“It’s not a problem of quality but of confidence. He needs to gain confidence and play in this context: in Serie A he has no space, he has to make movements at the right time.”
As per the report, Chukwueze’s market value is ‘currently estimated at €20m’ which is around what the Rossoneri paid.
