Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation to UNGA as Tinubu focuses on local challenges

President Bola Tinubu has asked his deputy, Senator Kashim Shettima, to lead the Nigerian delegation to the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, USA.

In a statement from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, it was noted that President Tinubu, who returned to Nigeria last Sunday after trips to China and the United Kingdom, wants to concentrate on addressing domestic issues, especially following recent severe flooding.

During UNGA 79, Vice President Shettima will present Nigeria’s national statement to the General Assembly, participate in key sideline events, and hold important bilateral meetings.

The high-level General Debate will take place from Tuesday, September 24, through Saturday, September 28, 2024, with the theme: “Leaving no one behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations.”
