Rivers government denies reports of Obasanjo and PANDEF visits to Fubara

The Rivers State government has denied reports claiming that former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Pan Niger Delta Elders Forum (PANDEF) visited Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nelson Chukwudi, the government dismissed the circulating claims as “malicious posts” on social media. These reports suggested that Obasanjo and PANDEF were attempting to mediate in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, particularly between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

“These are false and misleading claims,” Chukwudi stated. “There was no such visit by PANDEF to Governor Fubara on Sunday, March 16, 2025, nor did former President Olusegun Obasanjo visit him as alleged. These narratives are nothing but the imagination of individuals seeking to stir unrest and confusion in the state.”

The statement further emphasized that the government would not typically respond to “spurious claims” but did so to prevent any misleading impressions from spreading among the public. Chukwudi reiterated that the governor has been committed to implementing the Supreme Court’s ruling on the political crisis in Rivers State.

The Rivers State House of Assembly, however, has been unwilling to cooperate with the governor to resolve the issues raised by the court, despite Fubara’s efforts to move forward with the Supreme Court’s directives.

“The Governor is ready, at any time, to ensure the resolution of all issues and the smooth functioning of the state’s government,” Chukwudi concluded.
