President Tinubu Lauds Port Harcourt Refinery Revival, Directs NNPC to Expedite Warri and Kaduna Reactivations

President Bola Tinubu has praised the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) for achieving a significant milestone in the revitalisation of Nigeria’s oil infrastructure with the official resumption of petroleum product loading at the Port Harcourt refinery.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President applauded the contributions of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who initiated the comprehensive rehabilitation of the nation’s refineries, and commended the African Export-Import Bank for its financial backing of the project.

President Tinubu also expressed gratitude to NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, for his leadership, stating that this dedication and commitment were instrumental in achieving this milestone.

With the Port Harcourt refinery now operational, President Tinubu has directed the NNPC to accelerate the reactivation of the second Port Harcourt refinery as well as the Warri and Kaduna refineries. These moves, according to the President, aim to increase domestic production capacity and reposition Nigeria as a major energy hub in the global market.

“These efforts will significantly enhance domestic production capacity alongside the contributions of privately-owned refineries and make our country a major energy hub,” the statement read, noting that the administration’s focus on the gas sector is also yielding unprecedented attention and growth.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to eradicating the perception of Nigeria as a crude oil-producing nation unable to refine its resources for local use.

“This administration is determined to repair our nation’s refineries, reflecting values of patience, integrity, and accountability in rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure,” the statement further read.

In line with his Renewed Hope Agenda, President Tinubu stressed the importance of energy sufficiency, security, and boosting export capacity for shared economic prosperity.

He then called on all stakeholders and citizens to uphold trust, focus, and diligence in their service to the nation, as Nigeria works toward becoming an energy self-sufficient economy.

The revival of the Port Harcourt refinery marks a crucial step toward strengthening Nigeria’s energy sector.
