Police Commissioner urges continued support for NDLEA in fighting drug abuse in Taraba
On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, the Commissioner of Police in Taraba State, Ukachi Peter Opara, called for ongoing support for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in its battle against drug abuse in the state. Opara made the call during a courtesy visit to the NDLEA’s state command in Jalingo.
He stressed that strong collaboration between government agencies, other law enforcement bodies, and stakeholders is crucial for fighting criminal activities and social problems in Taraba. Opara warned that failing to provide this support could lead to serious threats to national security.
The Commissioner also praised the NDLEA for its recent success in dismantling a seven-member drug cartel that had been smuggling drugs to terrorists in Nigeria’s Northeast and Northwest regions, as well as to countries such as Niger, Mali, Sudan, and Burkina Faso.
Reaffirming his commitment, Opara emphasized the importance of the police working closely with the NDLEA to protect the lives and property of Taraba residents.
In response, the NDLEA boss in Taraba, Ali Obadiah Umar, commended the police commissioner for his proactive stance on strengthening inter-agency cooperation. Umar pledged his full support for the police’s efforts to maintain law and order in the state, recognizing that such teamwork is key to tackling the drug abuse crisis and improving security in Taraba.
