Obaseki orders resumption of state security network amid rising insecurity
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has directed the State Security Network (ESSN) to resume its regular operations following a sharp increase in security concerns across the state.
This decision was announced by the state’s Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, in a statement issued today. The order comes after a review of the growing insecurity in the state, particularly the rise in violent crimes and homicides. Nehikhare explained that the directive followed an emergency meeting of the State Security Council on Monday, which discussed these pressing security issues.
“The current security situation in the state will not be tolerated,” Nehikhare said. “Governor Obaseki has made it clear that the safety of lives and property is a top priority for the state government.” He also noted that the state’s Commissioner of Police has been instructed to take all necessary actions to restore peace and order.
The resumption of ESSN operations marks a significant step in the state’s efforts to curb violence and bring back stability. The government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens.
It’s worth noting that in September 2024, during the Edo State governorship election, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had placed a ban on the state-owned security outfit, along with other local security agencies. However, with security threats escalating, the decision to restart ESSN operations underscores the state government’s renewed focus on tackling insecurity.
Governor Obaseki’s administration continues to prioritize public safety and peace, and the resumption of the ESSN is expected to play a key role in this effort.
