NNPC hasn’t started shipping petrol yet, talks are still in progress – Dangote Refinery

Dangote Refinery wants everyone to know that NNPC Limited hasn’t begun sending petrol from their facility yet because they’re still working out the details of their agreement.

Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer for Dangote Group, said on Thursday, September 5, that they can’t set the price for petrol because it’s regulated by the government.

He clarified that recent media reports claiming NNPC has started shipping petrol from the refinery are not true.

“We want to be clear that NNPC hasn’t started taking any refined petrol, also known as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), from our Dangote Petroleum Refinery,” Chiejina said. “So, we can’t talk about petrol prices yet because our contract with NNPC isn’t finalized.”

He explained that the price of petrol is controlled by the government, so Dangote can’t set or change it.

Chiejina asked everyone to ignore the misleading reports and assured Nigerians that they will get high-quality petrol available across the country.

In the meantime, NNPC Limited revealed that they will deliver over 17.6 million barrels of crude oil to Dangote Petroleum Refinery between September and October.

On Thursday, Adedapo Segun, Executive Vice-President of Downstream at NNPC, shared this news on national television, explaining that it’s part of the government’s plan to boost local production of petrol.

“We’ve already supplied about 30 million barrels to Dangote so far—6.3 million this month and 11.3 million in October,” Segun added.
