NASIEC hands certificates to newly elected council chairmen in Nasarawa

On Monday, November 4, the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) presented Certificates of Return to the 13 newly elected local government area chairmen in Nasarawa State.

The ceremony, held at NASIEC headquarters, marked the conclusion of the local government elections, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured all 13 chairmanship positions.

During the event, NASIEC Chairman Ayuba Usman Wandai described the election as transparent and credible, reflecting the will of the people. “This presentation of Certificates of Return represents the final statutory responsibility of NASIEC in the electoral process, as mandated by law, and we carry it out with confidence in the credibility of the process and the legitimacy of the results,” Wandai stated.

The APC also dominated the elections for councillorship positions, winning 140 out of 147 available seats. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) secured five councillorship seats, while the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won two.

Wandai expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections, including security agencies, traditional leaders, the Inter-Party Advisory Council, and the media. He specifically thanked Governor Abdullahi Sule and the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for their support in ensuring the elections’ success.

“Special thanks go to His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, for his continuous support and respect for NASIEC’s independence,” he added, also acknowledging the dedication of NASIEC staff.

With a significant majority, APC candidates claimed key local government areas such as Lafia, Doma, Keana, Awe, and others. The election saw strong voter turnout, with Lafia leading with 217,573 votes, followed by Karu with 146,450 votes.

Wandai encouraged any aggrieved parties to seek resolution through the appropriate legal channels.
