Labour Party presidential candidate condemns genocidal threats against igbos

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 polls, has strongly condemned the genocidal threats against the Igbo tribe, calling for their relocation from certain regions.

Obi described the rhetoric as “deeply disturbing” and warned that it threatens Nigeria’s unity and violates the Constitution, which guarantees every Nigerian the right to live and work freely anywhere in the country.

“Those in authority must show leadership and urgently speak out against such divisive rhetoric,” Obi said. He urged all Nigerians to stand united against the threats and champion unity, tolerance, and understanding, emphasizing that “our future depends on our ability to live and work together harmoniously.”

Obi also called on the government and security agencies to “act swiftly to protect this fundamental principle and ensure that every Nigerian can live free from fear of discrimination or persecution.” He stressed that Nigeria’s present challenges should not be allowed to drive wedges among its citizens.
