JAMB laments low turnout of DE candidates at additional registration points
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that the creation of additional registration points for 2024 Direct Entry (DE) candidates proved largely unnecessary due to the low turnout of applicants.
The examination body had established additional registration points beyond the Professional Registration Centres, PRCs, in Lagos, Kwara, Osun, and Ogun States to accommodate the 2024 Direct Entry, DE, candidates.
However, a statement by JAMB’s spokesman, Dr Fabian Benjamin, on Wednesday, said turnout at the extra registration centres was low.
He said the additional centres, at JKK Lagos, JAMB PRC Ikoyi, and Ogba, Ikeja in Lagos, created to ensure that every eligible candidate registers, reported that a vast majority of prospective DE candidates have already completed their registration.
Some of the centres according to Benjamin saw fewer than ten candidates per day, despite having the capacity to handle over 100 daily.
Despite the low turnout, JAMB urged any remaining eligible candidates to seize the opportunity to register, as no further extensions will be granted.
The Board noted that the extra registration points will remain open until the exercise concludes on Monday, June 17, 2024, and no appeals for additional time will be entertained.
Additionally, candidates scheduled for the 2024 Supplementary UTME should note that the exams will now be held on both Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22, 2024.
