INEC promises better logistics and results management for Ondo gubernatorial election

On Monday, November 4, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), assured voters that there will be improvements in logistics and results management for the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State, scheduled for November 16.

Yakubu made these comments during a visit to the INEC office in Akure to assess preparations for the election. He explained that the commission has learned valuable lessons from past elections.

“We have received positive reports from our state office in Akure, but we decided to come for a readiness assessment,” he said. “We have learned a lot of lessons, not only from the last election but also from previous ones.”

He identified two main challenges: ensuring that polling units open on time and improving the management of election results. “My assurance to voters in Ondo State is that they will see fast improvements in these two processes,” Yakubu added.

During his visit, he also met with various stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organizations, the media, security agencies, and INEC staff, to evaluate their readiness for the election.
