Ibadan Tragedy: Court sets date for bail hearing of Ooni of Ife’s Ex-Queen Naomi, others involved in stampede
The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has scheduled January 13, 2025, to decide on the bail requests for Naomi Silekunola, the former Queen of Ooni of Ife, Oriyomi Hazmat, and Abdullahi Fasasi.
Justice K. B. Olawoyin made this announcement during the court session on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
Naomi, who is no longer the Queen of Ooni of Ife, along with Oriyomi Hazmat, the owner of Agidigbo FM in Ibadan, and Abdullahi Fasasi, the Principal of Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan, were arrested after a tragic stampede that happened in December. This unfortunate event led to the death of over 35 individuals who were gathered for a food distribution.
The legal teams representing the accused submitted their bail applications to the court. After considering the arguments presented by the counsels on Tuesday, January 7, Justice Olawoyin postponed the decision on the bail to January 13, 2025.
Currently, Naomi, Hazmat, and Fasasi are being held at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Agodi, awaiting the court’s ruling on their bail.
