Governor Mutfwang dismisses explosion reports in Jos as false, urges vigilance
On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State dismissed reports of an explosion in Jos, the state capital, calling them false and based on a misunderstanding.
Earlier, rumors circulated that an explosion had occurred in Jos, reportedly caused by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted near the old Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) site, close to Terminus Market in Jos North Local Government Area. It was also claimed that three IEDs had been found in the area.
However, in a statement issued by Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, it was clarified that there was no explosion. According to the statement, the alarm was raised by a group of individuals who mistakenly identified a pile of polythene bags as a potential threat.
“Security agencies, including the anti-bomb squad from the Plateau State Police Command, responded promptly,” the statement explained. “After a thorough inspection, no explosive devices were found.”
Governor Mutfwang reassured Plateau residents that there was no danger and urged them to remain vigilant. “I encourage all citizens to act responsibly and remain vigilant,” he said, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation for maintaining peace and security.
The Governor also reassured the public that his administration is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents across Plateau State.
