Desmond Elliot responds to gay allegations, stresses respect and privacy
Nollywood actor and politician Desmond Elliot has finally addressed the rumors that have been circulating about his sexual orientation.
In an interview with TVC, Elliot explained his decision not to respond immediately to the allegations, which claimed he was gay, stating that he did not see the need for clarification.
The actor, who has also ventured into politics, dismissed the accusations as baseless and unnecessary to address, emphasizing that such claims did not impact his life or work. “Why would I respond to allegations made against me when it did not reduce or increase my life? It is an opinion being conceived. As long as I’m affecting people positively, I’m good,” he said.
Elliot also used the opportunity to call for tolerance and respect in society. He acknowledged that everyone has the right to live as they see fit, as long as it is within legal boundaries, but stressed that mutual respect is essential. “If you feel you identify as something, as long as it’s within the law, people don’t have to accept it, do you,” he said. “But let me say right here, I’m straight… you can never have anyone straighter than me.”
The comments came after a controversial blog post named several male Nigerian celebrities, including Elliot, accusing them of being gay, which sparked widespread conversations on social media. Despite the uproar, Elliot, unlike many others on the list, responded publicly, reiterating the importance of respect and privacy while standing by his own identity.
