Yobe approves ₦70,000 minimum wage for civil servants starting December
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved the implementation of a ₦70,000 minimum wage for state civil servants, effective December 2024. The decision aims to improve workers’ welfare and follows recommendations by a government-constituted committee on the minimum wage.
The committee also recommended a reconciliation of local government finances to ensure a smooth transition from the current salary structure to the new minimum wage for local government employees. According to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Mamman Mohammed, this reconciliation process is nearing completion and will be finalized soon to enable swift implementation.
The decision reflects the state government’s commitment to addressing the financial needs of its workforce, marking a significant milestone in improving public service compensation.
