VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky: House of Representatives investigates bribery claims against EFCC and NCS

On Thursday, September 26, the House of Representatives began an investigation into serious bribery allegations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).

The claims, brought to light by social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, suggest that the EFCC dropped money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, after allegedly receiving N15 million.

Rep. Patrick Umoh, who represents Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom State, sponsored the motion during the plenary session. He expressed concern over the damaging implications of these allegations for Nigeria’s reputation.

Addressing his fellow representatives, Umoh stated, “The publication alleges that the EFCC dropped money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, upon collection of the sum of N15,000,000. Additionally, it claims that Okuneye, convicted for abuse and defacing of the Naira, did not serve his time in the Nigeria Correctional Service but was instead lodged outside its confines.”

He emphasized the need to take these allegations seriously, stating, “The negative portrayal of Nigeria as a corrupt nation cannot be ignored.”

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who led the session, referred the matter to the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions for further investigation. They are expected to report back within three legislative weeks.
