Tinubu, Atiku feud slowing Nigeria’s progress – APC chieftain calls for unity summit

A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, has described the ongoing political rift between President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as a major obstacle to Nigeria’s progress, urging both leaders to set aside their differences for the sake of national unity.

In a statement issued through his media aide, Rasheed Abubakar, on Tuesday, April 15, Mumuni acknowledged Nigeria’s current challenges and appealed for a spirit of cooperation and national interest between the two political heavyweights.

“In these challenging times, we find ourselves at a critical juncture in our nation’s history. It has become increasingly evident that the discord between our political leaders, particularly between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and President Bola Tinubu, is an impediment to national progress,” Mumuni stated.

“The ongoing grievances, while valid in their own right, must be set aside for the greater good of our beloved country and its citizens.”

Mumuni lamented the lack of honest discourse among Nigeria’s political elite, which he said has led to widespread public disillusionment and hindered effective governance. He called on leaders to shift focus toward constructive engagement on key issues such as economic recovery, security, education, and healthcare.

“Our nation does not lack the wisdom and vision of its leaders, but rather the unity and collaboration that can transform challenges into opportunities for growth and development,” he added.

Mumuni urged Tinubu and Atiku to initiate a national summit where their concerns could be openly discussed and common ground established for the benefit of Nigerians.

“Let us inspire optimism and a renewed sense of purpose among the people of Nigeria. Together, we have an opportunity to build a legacy of unity and progress, one that will be remembered for generations to come.”

He concluded by reminding both leaders that the world is watching and history will favor those who rise above personal interests to work for the collective good of the nation.
