Thomas Tuchel addresses reports of Ben White rejecting England call-up

On Friday, March 14, England head coach Thomas Tuchel spoke out about reports suggesting that Arsenal defender Ben White had rejected a call-up to the national team. Tuchel denied these claims, confirming that White is eager to return to the England squad.
The German manager revealed that he had spoken with White about the possibility of making a comeback to the Three Lions, after the defender had been absent from international duty since leaving the England camp early during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“Ben White didn’t refuse the call, he loves to be back in the squad,” Tuchel told reporters following the announcement of his squad, which included players like Marcus Rashford, Jordan Henderson, and Reece James. “I just think it’s a bit too early now for him, given the seriousness of his injury. I’m delighted he’s back. We’re monitoring his progress. Thanks to everyone at Arsenal.”
In contrast, Tuchel’s predecessor, Gareth Southgate, had stated in March 2024 that the FA’s technical director, John McDermott, had received a call from Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, confirming that White did not wish to be considered for international selection at the time.
Tuchel, who took over as England manager after his tenure with Bayern Munich, had previously confirmed in December that he would reach out to White, and now reveals that the defender is keen to rejoin the national team once he fully recovers from his injury.
