Sultan Bello Mosque is under our control, not Sheikh Gumi's - JNI
The Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, has warned that the Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna is under the its control, and is not for Sheikh Ahmed Gumi’s lineage to do with as they please, Premium Times reports.
Yusuf Bida, the JNI Administrative Secretary reiterated this in Kaduna while addressing journalists regarding a write-up on social media concerning the appointment of a deputy for Gumi, on Monday, March 11.
The said write-up, which was believed to have been done by a student of Gumi, criticized the appointment saying that the new deputy was not of the Gumi school of thought. It also stated the appointment was done by entities who were not grounded in the doctrines of Gumi’s father, the late Sheikh Abubakar Gumi.
Bida says that the write-up was aimed at causing chaos and unrest in the mosque, where there wasn’t before. Bida stressed that the mosque has enjoyed peace for a very long time. He then explained that appointments are based on applications and adequate vetting done by the JNI.
Successful candidates are then appointed to whatever role they are deemed to be able to function best.
Mr Bida said, “That same process saw the emergence of Sheikh Ahmed Gumi who is the incumbent Imam of the Mosque.
“In view of the above, we call on the people, especially the students of Sheikh Ahmad Gumi worldwide, who have been hurt and troubled by the unfounded and fabricated social media lies to remain calm and disregard the false information.”
Finally, Bida called on the Mosque’s Management Board to urgently take measures to curtail the influence of clout chasers and those who are only out to sow seeds of strife.
