Senator Kalu makes powerful plea for peace, says fighting in Nigeria must stop now

On Monday, April 14, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who used to be the governor of Abia State and is now a leader in the Nigerian Senate, sent an important message from China through a video on his social media. He said that the country must take urgent and serious action to stop the rising violence and fighting in different parts of Nigeria.

Kalu, who helps lead a committee focused on improving the South-East region, said that more support and money should be given to Nigeria’s security forces to help them keep people safe. But he also said that this problem should not be about politics.

“The Minister of Information is doing his job, but Professor Zulum is right. I am almost from Borno State. If the Federal Government doesn’t take the right step in Borno State and the South East, those areas might collapse,” Kalu warned.

This came after the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum, raised the alarm about how some parts of his state are being taken over by dangerous fighters called insurgents. Kalu said that if nothing is done soon, both Borno and the Southeast could face very serious trouble.

He added:
“I want to believe Professor Zulum that the security situation is deteriorating every day, so we need to step up, especially in the Southeast.
Our Southeast governors are doing their best to fight insurgency. I would like the Federal Government to step up security in the Southeast because it’s a gateway for people transporting goods from the ports and refineries.”

Kalu said it’s important for leaders to tell the truth to President Tinubu about what’s really happening so that the country can be protected.

He also had a message for Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, saying that he should listen carefully to what Governor Zulum is saying and pass that message on to the President instead of ignoring it.

“For me, Professor Zulum and the Minister don’t need to argue. These are fundamental issues. If we don’t tell President Tinubu the truth, the place will be ungovernable,” Kalu said.

Meanwhile, a group called IPoB (the Indigenous People of Biafra) replied to Senator Kalu’s message. They said that the government he supports actually helped cause the insecurity people are now suffering from.

“We’re fighting insecurity your government created,” IPoB said.

Kalu finished by saying that solving these problems will take honesty, teamwork, and real action—not arguments or blame.
