Rivers crisis: Wike responds to Edwin Clark, says Fubara should tackle his own crises

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has responded to Edwin Clark’s claims that he is using his connection with President Bola Tinubu to pressure Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara.

Wike asserted that Fubara needs to confront the challenges in Rivers State head-on, emphasizing that handling crises is a key aspect of leadership.

In an open letter to the PDP national leadership, Clark had called for Wike’s expulsion from the party, accusing him of trying to undermine Rivers State through his conflicts with the governor.

Wike and Fubara have been at odds over political control and resources in Rivers State.

At a media briefing marking his one year as FCT Minister, Wike said: “I don’t know which party Chief Clark belongs to, but back in 2014, when I ran for office, he said I wouldn’t win because it was the turn of the Ijaws. Despite his opposition, I won, thanks to God.

“I wasn’t a bad person when I supported an Ijaw candidate for governor, but now, because of current issues, I’m being labeled as one. I’ve chosen not to respond to everything Clark has said.

“He advocated for a southern President and power rotation to the South, which I supported and believed in. So, what exactly is my crime?

“In leadership, not everything will be smooth. I faced my own challenges and never blamed anyone or any ethnic group. If you’re in a leadership role, you must be prepared to face crises. That’s part of politics—sometimes it’s good, and sometimes it’s tough.”
