Rivers crisis: PDP governors declare unwavering support for suspended Governor Fubara

On Monday, April 14, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum expressed unwavering support for Sim Fubara, the suspended Governor of Rivers State. The statement came after the Forum’s meeting in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
The meeting was led by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who made it clear that the PDP governors would continue to stand by Fubara amid the political turmoil in his state. This follows the suspension imposed on Fubara by President Bola Tinubu, who also declared a state of emergency in Rivers State to address the ongoing crisis.
As part of the emergency measures, President Tinubu appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State. Despite this, the PDP governors remained resolute in their support for Fubara, with the Forum issuing a communiqué that read: “We restate our commitment to stand with him (Fubara) until the end amid the challenges posed by the declaration of a state of emergency in his state.”
In addition to their statement of solidarity with Fubara, the PDP governors also raised concerns about the growing security challenges across Nigeria, particularly in Borno, Katsina, and Edo states. The Forum expressed alarm over the worsening security situation, calling for a comprehensive review of the country’s security strategy.
The governors emphasized the need for a “bottom-up approach” to address these issues, advocating for a reorientation of priorities and strategies to ensure more effective security measures.
